The Agricultural Research Council hosts the annual National Beef Performers Awards and the inaugural Agri Indaba
On 29 August 2019 the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) will host its 41st National Beef Performers Awards 2019 at our Animal Production Research Campus in Irene, Centurion. This is by invitation only. The Awards are sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development.
The ARC supports the R6bn South African beef industry with research and development coordinated through the following disciplines: Animal Breeding and Genetics, Germplasm Conservation and Reproductive Biotechnology, Nutrition, Rangeland Science and Forage Ecology, Dairy and Meat Science. The ARC also has an established network for information dissemination through its Animal Recording and Improvement Schemes and associated database.
Each year, the National Beef Recording and Improvement Scheme of the ARC presents Awards to showcase and acknowledge South Africa’s most outstanding achievers in breeding genetically superior animals using performance recording as a tool. The Awards also highlight the ARC’s role in applying technologies that address the needs of the beef breeding and production industry.
Ever since the demise of the Pretoria Agricultural Show, farmers in Gauteng Province have been disadvantaged and had to rely on other provinces for agricultural shows. The ARC saw fit to meet the needs of the farmers and will this year hold its inaugural ARC Agri Indaba, at the Animal Production Research Campus, also in Irene, Centurion on 29 – 30 August. The Indaba is open to the public entry and entry is free.
