There should not be an excuse for not making a success of your farming. At the Undercover Farming conference and show in Pretoria running commentary was that a plan exists to solve every problem.

Surely the biggest obstacle in the way of beginning with tunnel production is the required capital outlay to erect the structures and install the required systems. Vaughan Coetzee of ModelCapital offers a financial support scheme enabling the intending tunnel farmer to obtain everything to get a foot in the door with the assistance of the company’s structure and service partners, either by hiring it or purchasing it on a hire purchase agreement and paying H.P. instalments.
“A well-planned irrigation system for plants in intensive production farming is also a big investment but, without support by experts, costs can escalate over the longer term because of water wastage and electricity consumption,” says Isobel van der Stoep of Cherry Irrigation.
Biological solutions for sound, sustainable food production also enjoyed intense attention during the conference. SABO is a voluntary organisation established to promote the use of approved biological products. Jaco Marais of SABO says the industry has come a long way in proving the scientific character of biological agents and farmers need not discard all chemical methods when they want to embark on more biologically sustainable farming methods.
Gail Pedra, a popular lecturer who discussed the medicinal use of plants and essential oils, is very outspoken regarding the many obstacles farmers have to face when they want to grow cannabis. She says conditions for cultivating dagga is just as stringent as those for opium. She hopes promises made in Parliament to make the life of smallholder farmers easier, will come to fruition soon.
Their exhibit area was the place of bantering, exchange of information, closing of deals and establishing networking relations.
