“You’ve got to give yourself the freedom to dream – to use your imagination to see and feel what does not yet exist. A vision is not the same as goals or objectives; those come from the head. A vision comes from the heart.” – John Graham, American Economist.

When Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created the Apple computer in Jobs’ family garage, they hoped to sell their computers to customers for more than what it costs to make and market them. Eventually they built a business empire.

To become a successful chicken farmer, you need to follow the same principle – to sell your stock for more than it costs to produce and market them.

Every business must have one or more owners whose primary role is to develop vision into business action. In the broiler business, this owner can rely on Tiger Animal Feeds as a supplier of products and services to successfully achieve that vision.

Just like here in Petauke, Tiger Animal Feeds have depots all over the country, ready to provide and assist.

Here is the success story of a young and enthusiastic customer from Petauke District of Eastern Province. Davison Mbewe, aged 20, of Chikalaba Village, is determined to empower himself through a broiler business with guidance from Tiger Animal Feeds.

In June 2020, Davison visited the Petauke Depot of Tiger Animal Feeds to acquire more knowledge on broiler management, and bought 100 broiler chicks. Regardless of poor pen structure, he was determined to face the challenges of poultry farming.

Davison was advised to use Classic broiler feeds which are specially designed for farmers who produce broilers for the live market between 5 and 6 weeks of age. The rations in this range include a coccidiostat and a growth promoter, but no animal by-products or hormones.

Davison Mbewe, aged 20, of Chikalaba Village is determined to empower himself through a broiler business with guidance from Tiger Animal Feeds.

Classic Broiler Starter Crumbles: Feed from day old to 18 days of age. The approximate feed consumption is 800 g per bird. Crumbles are fed for faster growth and better feed conversion.

Classic Broiler Grower Pellets: The Grower ration should be fed to broilers from 19 days to 28 days of  age. The approximate feed consumption should be 1,2 kg per bird.

Classic Broiler Finisher Pellet: The Finisher ration should be fed from 29 days to 42 days. The approximate feed consumption should be 1,4 kg per bird for the period.

Tiger Animal Feeds offers technical skills, including training from specialised experts in specific fields, to enable the farmer to apply knowledge for better results. Tiger Animal Feeds and Tiger Chicks are committed to ensure better results on livestock management.

Through Tiger Animal Feeds’ technical training, Davison was able to grow broilers successfully with an end mortality of 2% and final weights of 2,4 kg at 6 weeks of age. He used dry leaves as litter, which worked very well.

Every business has its challenges; Davison also faced challenges in his broiler production. The most challenging factors were ventilation and temperature control.

Despite the challenges, Davison dedicated his efforts and resources to produce quality broilers for the market.

As from December 2020, Davison increased his broiler placement from 100 to 250 chicks. His vision is to increase the broiler production up to 2 000, where he will be able to supply to chain stores and restaurants. Tiger Animal Feeds plays an important role in helping him to achieve his vision by offering free technical services to improve his production.

Vision

A vision is the mental picture of a dream. The picture of what has not yet happened, but what the future may hold. In business, having a clear vision is absolutely critical. It is an extremely powerful tool to achieve the results that the young farmer, Davison Mbewe, is aiming at. His vision is driven by his passion for broiler production and realised with assistance from Tiger Animal Feeds.
