Great things, which would leave farmers elated and thankful into the far future, kicked off when Abe Zimmerman opened his agricultural equipment repair shop in 1895 in New Holland, Pennsylvania, America. That is the origin of the New Holland farm equipment name, a name that is today still appreciated, respected and spoken with awe by farmers all over the world.

Abe soon realised that he could make a bigger contribution to the world of agriculture than merely repairing equipment designed and manufactured by others. He embarked on the manufacture of New Holland equipment himself to push dependable, efficient agricultural technology a step forward. Until today the name New Holland has been known since then for its quality products and user friendly implements for farmers, especially tractors that can take the punch and work hard but is soft on diesel consumption.

The CR combine

The CR harvester combine series is the most advanced and efficient combine team in the world with three combines in the New Holland stable: the CR 6.80, CR 7.90 and CR 9.80. On 15 August 2014 this harvester combine set the present world harvesting record – 797,656 tons of wheat in less than eight hours!

The combine’s grain tank can guzzle 11 300 litres and the double rotor cleaning system ensures fast and efficient harvesting.

“It is equipped with electronic-hydraulic ASP (Automatic Stone Protection). It does not require a human hand to get rid of stones – the ASP system automatically throw the stones out,” says

Nico Dreyer, New Holland’s product manager for combines and sprayers.

The IntelliSteer system means that the combine can steer itself and self-adjust settings to give the farmer optimal production and make it possible to harvest 24 hours per day.

“The combine is also fitted with telematics, enabling the farmer to offload the machine’s information on his/her computer,” says Nico.

The farmer’s grain quality is ensured by the Opti-Clean system, which delivers the cleanest product. The cabin is big enough to prevent the operator from feeling claustrophobic; even big enough to invite someone for company.

The IntelliView full colour screen makes it easy for the operator to keep his/her eye continuously on all aspects of the harvesting process.

The T8 tractor range

Farmers literally gathered nonstop around the formidable T8.410 tractor exhibited by New Holland during the NAMPO Cape show to inspect it inside out and discuss the implement’s merits.

The New Holland T8 tractor range is primarily aimed at soil preparation and offers some of the most powerful tractors in the world. The series consists of five models of between 184 kW (T8.320) and 279 kW (T8.435).

“The tractors are known for their productivity and operator’s high comfort level,” says Ockert Scheepers, New Holland’s product manager, tractors.

All models are available with PowerShift or with CVT-transmission (continuous variation in power transmission). The tractor has long service intervals and a low carbon footprint. A full range of implements can be mounted on the front of the tractor, where it has a fully integrated front linkage and PTO available as optional feature.

“The farmer can choose between “Smart Track” or standard tyres. “Smart Track” means caterpillar halftrack drive on the rear with standard balloon tyres in front. The halftrack version ensures better purchase and less wheel slip, reduced soil compaction and means better weight distribution, balance and stability,” says Ockert.

The tractor simply has everything that a farmer may need to farm successfully. All controls are within immediate reach to make command for the operator as easy as possible. It also offers the most comfortable tractor ride any farmer could experience, even over the roughest terrain.

“Climate control and positioning of mirrors are electrified; the tractor has an air cushioned seat and also one for a passenger. The cabin is roomy; all controls are mounted on the armrest and moves with the operator in his chair, similar to the navigation screen, which is standard equipment,” Ockert adds.
