“The diesel consumption of Scania trucks is better than that of any other truck range in its class,” says Ryno van Wyk, owner of Rusgenot Transport. Ryno visited the Scania exhibition stand during the NAMPO Cape show at Bredasdorp. He has eight Scania trucks in service to transport fruit country-wide in South Africa.

“The Scania trucks represent exceptional value for money because they sell at excellent prices on the second-hand market. I will definitely buy more

Scanias in future,” says Ryno.

The Scania R560 NGT (New Generation long distance trucks) were launched in May this year during a country-wide road show and was exhibited for the first time at the NAMPO Cape Bredasdorp Show. It was also the first appearance of Scania at the show.

“The R560 is our top seller. The whole Southern Cape is full of Scanias. Farmers buy them to transport their farm products to the markets, and they can draw a variety of specialist trailers,” says Dippenaar Smith, Scania Sales Representative.

He adds that the improved airflow dynamics of the Scania cabs promote lower diesel consumption and that every truck comes with a standard 3 years/600 000 km warranty.

“Operators will now be more comfortable and be able to drive for longer stretches in the improved interior of the Scania R560 cabins – the farmer can now even choose a cab to fit his personal taste.

“The driver can observe more around him while driving and, if he wants to, stretch his legs or even stand upright in the cabin,” says Dippenaar.

Dippenaar Smith is a tall guy and even for him the new cab design makes it easy to stand at full height in a Scania truck.

Some outstanding features of the Scania truck interior:

• Fold-out table: The instrument panel on the passenger side can be equipped with a fold-out table with a smooth surface for working and eating;

• USB port to connect auxiliaries;

• Air conditioning: set the climate to your liking;

• Enhanced instrumentation: A larger display, improved graphics, and intuitive controls close at hand help you keep your full attention on the road ahead;

• Storage: The cab is equipped with enlarged and more easily accessible storage facilities above the doors and windscreen. The front upper storage space can also be used for a microwave oven or a coffee-maker;

• Locking and alarm systems: The vehicle is equipped with security central locking and an additional internal door lock. When the alarm is activated, the cab is monitored by motion detectors and sensors on doors and hatches. The alarm system also includes a panic alarm, activated either by the remote control or via the alarm button inside the cab;

• Immobiliser: If anyone tries to start the vehicle with the wrong key, the electronic immobiliser device cuts the fuel supply to the engine and the vehicle’s starter motor will not turn;

• The buyer can choose the colour for the cabin’s interior from light brown, dark brown, light or dark black, to a simulated wood finish;

• A farmer has a personal choice of the seats to be fitted for the driver and passenger, as well as a selection of steering wheels to choose from;

• There are two beds in the Scania cabin;

• The truck is fitted with cruise control; and

• For safety there are extra airbags above the two side doors.

Scania’s maintenance options

 Scania has two maintenance-plan options. The first is known as Repair and Maintain (R&M) light (less intensive plan), and the other the Full R & M (complete Scania service programme).

The Scania finance options

In the world of today it makes perfect sense to ensure that financing will be obtainable before planning to buy any big item. “The Scania Financing options make it easier for the farmer. Scania also assists farmers with the upgrading of their truck fleets and even offers excellent trade-in prices on trucks of other manufacturers,” says Morné Munz of Scania In-house Financing.

“All a farmer has to do, is to complete the necessary application forms first. We shall then follow it up by requesting his financial information. The client can also indicate what deposit he is willing to pay. However, we have to comply with the relevant credit act,” Morné adds.
