It takes a lot to stand out from the crowd at NAMPO. There are hundreds of exhibitors, thousands of products all vying for attention. Luckily, STIHL has a show-stopping selection of cutting-edge power tools that are set to draw the crowds!

The newcomers – designed for African conditions

Some of the latest items on show are the tough-enough-for-anything tools of the new STIHL 230 range. These models are designed for emerging markets and are easy to operate, long-lasting and cost-efficient. For drilling and pitting during fencing and planting, the compact BC 230 auger produces impressive power and thanks to its standard 20 mm connection, is compatible with a wide range of bits. The ergonomic BC 230 cultivator, with its robust 250 mm cultivator blades, makes light work of the hard African soil, while the WP 230 water pump delivers a high vertical and horizontal pumping capacity ‒ up to 250 litres a minute. Take the 230-range home to share the workload!

Fire season warrior

It’s that time of year again, when landowners go all-out to ensure their fire prevention programme is in place. A highly efficient addition to the team is the STIHL BR 700 magnum back-pack blower to remove potentially dangerous natural debris from around rocks and roots, and ensure that firebreaks are clear. While the BR 700 isn’t a single fire-fighting tool, it can replace beaters on a fire line and is useful in managing cold fires and when control is needed while clearing a line for back burning. It has an enhanced high air throughput of 1 550 m3/h, in conjunction with reduced noise and lower emissions, plus it’s the lightest machine in its class. Its STIHL 4-MIX engine makes it very fuel efficient – important when in the field with limited refuelling opportunities.

Chainsaws ‒ our lasting legacy

Chainsaws are in our blood – it’s where we started back in 1929. A real NAMPO head-turner is the world-first MS 500i chainsaw, which uses STIHL Injection Technology instead of a carburettor. With more horsepower than dry weight (6,8 hp [5 kW] versus 6,2 kg), this machine has been developed for the demands of harvesting and processing heavy timber. Lightweight despite its power, with the best power-to-weight ratio on the market, its fuel injection system ensures that it is highly fuel efficient. This machine will probably change power tools for ever!

Another pedigreed model is the MS 382 chainsaw, the enhanced big brother of the MS 381, previously South Africa’s best-selling chainsaw, with this model working faster and harder. It has an excellent power-to-weight ratio and outstanding fuel consumption – up to 20% less than previous models, thanks to the improved low emission 2-MIX motor.

The MS 310 is a classically robust 3,2 kW petrol chainsaw with anti-vibration system, ideal for cutting firewood and harvesting wood in medium density stands. Another handy helper is the lightweight MS 250 chainsaw, which is suitable for clearing or cleaning up – easy to use and reliable. If a lighter model is what you need, try the MS 170, which is perfect for trimming back small trees and cutting up fallen branches.

Cut grass and weeds down to size

The FS range of brushcutters has been designed for heavy duty grass cutting, as well as getting rid of bramble, weeds and dense thickets. All are ergonomic and lightweight, with single-cylinder, 2-stroke engines. Choose from the FS 160, the FS 235 and 235 R, and the FS 280. These machines are trusted by municipalities for their performance, resilience and easy maintenance.

Dig quickly and accurately

STIHL augers have multiple applications, from quickly and effectively drilling planting holes to taking soil samples. The BT 230 is a one-man auger, lightweight and compact with a 10,9 kg frame yet an impressive drilling performance in the 40 cc displacement class. This auger is designed for the emerging market, so it is robust and uncomplicated to operate and maintain. It has a sturdy support frame that can be fitted to numerous STIHL augers for flexibility and convenience.

The BT 131 petrol auger is another robust yet lightweight one-man machine. The powerful 36,3 cc 4-MIX engine combines the advantages of a 4-stroke engine with a 2-stroke fuel mix for lower fuel consumption, fewer emissions, quieter operation, impressive engine power and higher torque. The large fuel tank allows for longer run times with less downtime for refuelling, while the long-life air filter system and 2-stroke petrol mix reduce servicing intervals. The Quickstop® drill brake, triggered by the operator’s thigh, stops the machine should the drill bit jam, and the advanced vibration dampening system and larger hip pad increase operator comfort and reduce fatigue.
