Manage livestock the sure and easy way with Gallagher products
Decades of intimate cooperation between Gallagher and South African farmers enabled the company to develop the company’s livestock handling products to become world-wide stalwarts in agriculture. But it has no end – Gallagher still depend on the unstinting support and practical ingenuity of the hands-on farmer to continue designing and manufacturing even more efficient aids for the livestock farmer.
Farmers this year displayed enthusiastic interest in the Gallagher exhibit at the Val Farmer’s Day. Gallagher teamed up with Havco, their agent in the Standerton region, to enlighten farmers and service them with information and advice.

Jaco Burger, Gallagher sales manager for animal products in South Africa, had a full-time job at the exhibition. Their latest product, which received much attention, is a basic entry-level scale. “This is our first basic scale and is very easy to operate,” says Jaco. “It is a touch screen model and can weigh up to 1,5 tons. It is easy to operate and robust enough to use in veld conditions for the no-fuss determining of animal weight. And it is priced competitively!”

Various Gallagher power sources for electrified fences can be solar-powered. The source is housed in a neat container (with the batteries) and covered with a solar panel. The iconic “stock-stick” in Jaco’s hand, is a must for every farmer who has to control an unruly animal in his herd.

Havco is the Gallagher distributor in the Standerton area. The farmers already know the rest of the Havco-distributed products. Havco saw a gap in the market for electric fencing some years ago and approached Gallagher. They teamed up and have been very successful with the distribution of Gallagher products, earning even more farmer support since then. Willie Liebenberg is responsible for Havco’s field service and Dolf Volschenk is general manager and also a Havco director.

Havco manufactures manure spreaders, animal body clamps, self-feeders, ring-feeders, and stock crush pens for large animals.

Strip grazing is imperative on cultivated fodder crops and only feasible when a strong electric fence, which can give a decent shock, is in place to contain animals. The fence should be easy to move to rotate animals regularly for the efficient and maximum utilisation of fodder crops.
