The needs of the farmer are the first consideration in all the activities of the internationally renowned company, BHBW. BHBW is a prime agricultural supplier of superb machines, and agents for big brands such as AGCO, (Massey Ferguson and Challenger), Hyster, Utilev, Hardi and Yamaha.

Two years ago, BHBW first set foot in Zambia and with agriculture as their main business focus, they manage to cover this very diverse sector, from small-scale to emerging and commercial farming. In Lusaka they established a 4 000 m² warehouse, workshop and parts department where they carry spare parts for all the equipment they support. Trained technicians with three mobile support units are standing ready to go out to wherever there is a need.

Their Massey Ferguson tractor range covers an engine size range from 34 kW to 276 kW. They also offer conventional, no-till and widespan planters and haymaking equipment. Challenger’s tracked tractors are favoured amongst the bigger farmers, with a 260 kW to 391 kW engine range, and they also offer combine harvesters and self-propelled sprayers. BHBW also supplies a wide variety of other implements like rippers, disc harrows, ploughs and trailers.

Material handling is gaining momentum in Zambia and BHBW supports the Hyster lift trucks with capacities up to 52 tonnes and a wide variety of forklifts and other warehouse equipment. For the lighter duty needs, UTILEV will provide the forklift you need. Barry Hutchinson, Regional Manager for BHBW Southern Zambia, was very impressed with the Agritech Expo.

“We had a bit of rain before the show while we were building our stand, but that only settled the dust. During the show we had perfect sunny weather. The show is expensive, but it is getting bigger and bigger and the turn-out and interest in our products were quite extraordinary,” he says.

They displayed twenty tractors, a combine harvester and 25 implements from small to large scale applications. We also have three Hyster forklifts; a 5, 3,5 and a 2,5 tonne. BHBW is also in the process of establishing a fully-fledged dealership in Mkushi, where they bought two hectares of land to support all their activities for the northern region. Alexander Fircks is the Regional Manager in Northern Zambia and he is in charge of this new development. Besides their warehouses, BHBW works closely with stakeholders like the AGCO future farm outside Lusaka, where a state of the art learning facility is established. This institution utilises world class technological aides to transfer world class knowledge to dealer staff, technicians and emerging farmers.

Jupidex on board

BHBW recently made a deal with Jupidex in South Africa to supply and support Kverneland, Alpler, McHale, Wolagri, AgriSpread, Vicon and Celikel implements. Craig Ivins was recently appointed as the Export Manager: Africa for Jupidex and he attended Agritech to introduce their well-known products to the Zambian farmers.

“Our plan of action is to work with the bigger dealers like BHBW in Zambia because they already have a distribution structure and that makes it easier to supply our implements. We prefer to gain a footprint in countries with a large presence of commercial farmers, but we also supply a wide variety of implements for small and emerging farmers. This makes our investment worthwhile and that is why we spend lots of time and money in Zambia,” Craig says.

Jupidex has a big training facility in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, to support their dealers all over Africa.

“Finally, whenever farmers express a need for an implement, we shall procure the desired machine for them,” Barry says.
