The chassis of the new Hino 500 Wide Cab range accommodate a wide variety of bodies.

Every bit helps to make the farmer’s transport tasks easier and Hino has added a whole range of improvements to their 500 range. The new Hino Wide Cab is available in three different models: the 2836 (6×4) with a 28 tonne GVM (gross vehicle mass); the 2829 (6×2) with a 28 tonne GVM and the 1627 (4×2) with a 16 tonne GVM.

Hino already has a 45-year record as an important and popular player in the local truck market and this was the first overall model improvement on the 500 range in 14years. The two highlights accompanying the improvements are the new 6×4 models and the automatic gearbox sported by some models.

The first demonstration of the new models during the recent Automechanika Motor Show at Nasrec in Johannesburg impressed one and all. Production will commence early in November at the assembly line in Prospection, Durban, and the trucks will be available from middle November. Hino has thought about almost everything to ensure their trucks are always a step ahead of the rest.

All three the models boast the following new functions:

*the manual gearbox models now have a Hill Assist function to give the driver better control when he starts driving on a hill.

*The S-CAM brake system with a self-adjustment function prolongs the lifespan of the brakes.

*the cabin is semi-floating for more driver comfort

*A modular chassis makes it easier to mount a variety of bodies.

*The bigger and more powerful alternator makes provision for more electrical equipment.

*a better insect screen in front of the engine and radiator reduces the possibility of overheating.

*the front axle of 7,5 ton ensures improved load distribution.

*access to the cabin is now easier

*the new headlights an improved view of the road at night.

*the 2836 (6×4) also has a cross-axle differential lock function to prevent wheel slip on difficult terrain.

*the 2829 (6×2) also has an electrical cabin tilt function, as well as height management of the chassis for different loading and unloading heights

The inside of the cabin also has many improvements:

*radio and speakers are standard equipment

*the cup holders can be retracted to hide them

*the drivers’ seat now has air suspension.

*the new instrument panel now offers analogue and digital screens

*speed control is included for more driving ease and control

*an air conditioner ensures more comfort for the occupants

*the central lock function improves security and comfort

* the cabin’s windows can be opened and closed electrically

*the immobiliser and central locking system improve security

*the steering column can be tilted and telescopically adjusted

*the 1627 (4×2) and the 2829 (6×2) can be ordered in a manual version or with a six speed automatic gearbox.
