BEEF
Live Weaner – R40.56 per kg (live)
A2/A3 – R54.26 per kg
C2/C3 – R47.68 per kg
Market feel:
Demand is expected to decrease over the start of this year which can result in the A and C grade prices that can remain in a downward trend over the start of the year. Weaner prices traditionally increase over the first few weeks of the year as demand is higher and feedlots look to stock up again. Expect higher feed costs, lower slaughter prices and higher weaner prices to put severe pressure on the profitability of feedlots.

MUTTON
Feeder Lamb – R40.68 per kg (L I V E)

Market feel:
Lower consumer demand resulted in the slaughter prices to decrease over the first week of the year. Supply of lambs increased which coupled with lower demand from feedlots resulted in this price to decrease as well. Feeder lamb prices can stay constant while slaughter prices are likely to decrease as demand may put pressure on these prices.
